What is Personal Training?

Personal Training is a specialised service designed to help you achieve your health and fitness goals in the quickest, safest and most effective way. The Personal Trainers at North Adelaide Fitness Centre design individualised health and fitness programs utilising the most recent scientific and functional information. Our trainers will provide a health and fitness evaluation as well as a postural analysis to design the most appropriate program for you, including gym-based, functional, sports specific, rehabilitation and outdoor exercises.

Why should I use a Personal Trainer?

Statistics show that out of all exercisers, only 25% get the results they set out to achieve. Out of those people who get results, 90% used a Personal Trainer in conjunction with weekly gym visits.” Engaging the services of a Personal Trainer is one
of the best investments you can make. Ask yourself the question, how important is your health and well
being? Are you prepared to make the adjustment to a healthier lifestyle that you can maintain?

A Personal Trainer will help you achieve real results, especially if:

  • you need extra motivation
  • you want to improve your exercise technique
  • you want to know what exercises are best for improving and altering your posture
  • you want to break out of your current “Fitness plateau”
  • you want to see results quickly
  • or one of many outcomes that are personal to you.

What should you look for when choosing a Personal Trainer?

First look to see they are qualified and registered with Fitness South Australia. Personal Trainers should be able to train people in all areas: whether they want to lose weight, gain muscle, train for a triathlon or recover from an injury. Trainers should be multi-dimensional and their knowledge should be unlimited. Look for a trainer with a record of great success who has been referred to you from someone who has experienced their success and achieved their goals. At North Adelaide Fitness Centre all trainers are Certified Level 4 Personal Trainers and registered with Fitness Australia. Our in-house trainers also undergo regular training by physiotherapists.

What qualities should a Personal Trainer possess?

Great people skills and great teaching skills, because essentially we are teachers. Your Personal Trainer needs to be passionate, listen, have empathy, be perceptive and also push you to reach your goals (be tough at times). It’s not always an easy job to help people change when most people are resistant to change. It really helps to work with your Trainer and push through the barriers we all create for ourselves.

How often should you train with a Personal Trainer?

Most clients train once a week. We also have a range of clients training from once a month to four times a week. It really depends on the type of results you are looking to achieve and how quickly you want to see them. Each individual is different, and once set up with a trainer they will help you decide on your training frequency and exercise plan.

What does training once a month achieve for a client?

People who train once a month with a Personal Trainer are well established in an exercise routine, and wish to touch base with their trainer monthly to ensure they are not getting off track to achieving their goals, adds variety to their exercise regime and to continually challenge themselves. For these people their trainer is more of a coach guiding them through. If they have any questions or they are unsure of anything, we encourage people to call the centre or their trainer. They fill in a training and food diary so we can give feedback and direction, and ensure their program achieves maximum gains for effort.

What is the difference between a Gym Instructor and a Personal Trainer?

A Gym Instructor is someone who will write a program for a client, and that person will do his or her own thing. When working with a client, a Personal Trainer will address everything that will have a direct result on how their client functions and feels.

What should you expect when seeing a Personal Trainer for the first time?

We take into account your exercise time, lifestyle, habits, thinking, behaviour, outlook, belief and attitude. Changing your body is about changing your thinking as well. Unfortunately, most people who achieve their goals do not always maintain them and can become fun it again. When you train with a Personal Trainer at North Adelaide Fitness Centre we are interested in how we can help you to make a permanent life change, not just to get in shape for summer. In the first session we will conduct a comprehensive fitness appraisal. This is an optional choice and we can adjust to suit the individual. As each person learns differently, each trainer can teach you differently. We like to find out who you are, what your exercise background and history is, what your needs are, what you want to achieve, why you are here, what you have tried before, what happened in the past, and if you have ever trained with a Personal Trainer before.

What do our trainers provide for you?

Accountability

Working with our trainers makes you accountable for your actions and helps you to achieve the most out of your training sessions.

Safety and Effectiveness

We ensure that you always perform your exercise program safely and correctly so that you can achieve maximum results.

Motivation

Your trainer will ensure that you stay motivated by establishing realistic goals, providing continuous feedback and encourage during each session. One of the key reasons people go to various clinics and programs in the hope that their program will be fixed by someone else – we can provide the motivation and support you need to help you achieve your goals.
